How to Overcome FEAR

HOW TO DEAL WITH OR OVERCOME FEAR.

Hello friends, this week we are going to talk about how to overcome fear. Yes, you heard me right, how to overcome fear. Fear is one of those things that messes around with our confidence. Here are the steps to deal with it;

1.      Awareness and Perspective.

Take perspective and always ask yourself a question, what is the worst that can happen? If it is no death, then what. Be aware of what it is exactly you are afraid about.

2.     Rationalize.

One of the great ways to kill the feeling of fear is, to ask the question, and then. Ask a question, what’s the worst that can happen, and then what. Before you know it, the fear dissolves.

3.     Force Yourself to Relax.

Force yourself to relax regardless of what it is. And then you will get the ability to be able to take on whatever it is.

4.     Write it Down.

Whatever the fear is, write it down. There is a powerful dynamic that happens when you take things from your head and you put it down and then write it down and begin to say, am fearful of this. Okay, if it happens then what, before you know it, it is gone. So take time to write it down.

5.     Be Present.

If you are alive and not in your head and, you are present right now, you can do anything at any one time. It's an unbelievable thing.

6.     Just Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway.

Just do whatever it is, you will be surprised. Our greatest challenge is to discipline ourselves to conquer our mind. So, your job is to silence that little discouraging voice and say, am going to feel this fear and do it anyway.

FULL TRANSCRIPT

This week I was having a conversation with my son. We went to a water park. Everybody else was running around, I noticed he would run and not go to a certain place that had water pouring from above. So I called him up and said, what's the deal. He said, "I fear." I said, "what do you mean you fear?". He said, "daddy I fear." I said, "but don't you see these other kids who are running around and they are going there? They are all running. What do you mean you fear?" I caught myself momentarily getting frustrated with the young man, I think he kind of read it in my eyes. Then he said, "no daddy, I fear." And then he got all soft on me and I said, am just going to leave him.

Let's just talk about this; Fear is just an illusion. It's just something that's there to mess with us. If you think about it, all the things you fear, 99.9% never come to pass. Most importantly, they are either things that are in past or, things that are in the present. You cannot fear something right now if, you are present.

HOW TO DEAL WITH OR OVERCOME FEAR.

It is just there to mess with your confidence. So just be aware and say, "you know what, this is just a character building situation that I just have to become aware of. That is messing with my confidence."

So the steps to deal with this;

1.      Awareness and Perspective.

The question I like to ask is, what's the worst that can happen? I think it’s a great question. I always ask, what's the worst that can happen if it is not death? Take a little bit of a step back and say, okay, am just going to ask and be aware of what it is exactly that am afraid. And when you take that perspective and ask the question, what is the worst that can happen. You would be surprised. All of a sudden, it begins to melt away.

2.     Rationalize.

Ask, this great question. Okay am fearful of this, then what happens if that happens. Am fearful of starting a business, then what will happen after that, then I will never live the life of my dreams. And then what, and then I will die miserably. Then you are like I better do something about it. Or am fearful of failing, then what, then if I fail then, I will be ridiculed and then ultimately nobody gives a dam.

It is just one of those things where you say am going to accept and release this. And one of the great ways to kill this feeling of fear is, to ask the question, and then. I learnt this from Brendon. Where I just go through it and say, okay, what is the worst that can happen, and then what. Before you know it, it just dissolves. Before you know it, there is no fear any more. The fear illusion is gone and then I do what I have to do.

3.     Force Yourself to Relax.

Now, this is one of those really powerful, difficult, very possible things to do. Force yourself to relax regardless of what it is. I noticed when we are doing a fire walk. The times when there is that split second, the people who really enjoy break through’ s of fire walk, there is that split second where they relax and walk comfortably on the fire. They get to the other side and say, oh my God, I just did it. Am like, of course you did it. Why? You forced yourself to relax and then you get the ability to be able to take in whatever it is. And think about it rationally, you know what, it was much easier than I thought.

4.     Write it Down.

Whatever the fear is, write it down. There is a powerful dynamic that happens when you take things from your head and you put it down and then write it down and begin to say, am fearful of this. Okay if it happens then what, before you know it, it is gone. So take time to write it down.

5.     Be Present.

Be alive, be in the moment. When you are present, alive and in the moment, it is practically possible to be scared. If you are alive and not in your head and you are present right now, you can do anything at any one time. It's an unbelievable thing.

6.     Just Feel the Fear and DO IT ANYWAY.

Just do whatever it is, you will be surprised. Our greatest challenge is to discipline ourselves to conquer our mind. This is what is interesting, somebody tells you, you’re going to walk on fire. Walking on fire is a metaphor for people to break through fear. So before, the first time I mentioned the word fire, guys are like you’re joking. It's not going to happen. Then that little voice kicks into over gear, I don’t know what, oh my God, you’re going to burn yourself don’t be crazy. How many people do you know who walk on fire?

And then we begin to get you in state. We begin to silence that voice and get you to change your state. You begin to breathe and we get you to say, every day in every way am getting better. Before you know it, you are breathing, you’re feeling good then you get to the fire and you are relax and then, you get to the other side. Then guess what, that little brain says, you see, it was easy, wasn’t it. It was the same little voice that was telling you earlier that, you are going to get burnt. So, your job is to silence it and say you know what, am going to feel this fear and do it anyway.

Now people say, "is it good to have fear?" ... Absolutely. I don’t know if it is fear or a little bit of anxiety or something to keep you on your toes. Of course it is good. That keeps you fresh, that keeps you on top of your game knowing that, if I don’t do what I have to do, their certain things that could go wrong.

It is possible however, knowing what you know, knowing that this is 2017 and you are in the momentum series, you know that you will do whatever it takes.
