How to Achieve your State of Flow (Optimal Performance)

Today I want to talk to you about something called the optimal performance for your company. This is a state where things you do turn out the way you want them to. Where everything you touch is moving the way you want it to. Here are steps of how it works out

1. Have total clarity.

Be in a state where you know exactly what you are about and what you want to achieve. You should have clarity of your goals and your vision in order to be in a state of flow.

2. Have a daily gratitude practice.

You must develop a practice where you are deeply grateful for everything you do. When feeling stressed, just be grateful. All of a sudden your state will change, the way you feel will also change and also your performance will change.

3. You got to celebrate your wins and progress consistently.

However small your win is, learn to celebrate it. It’s in doing those small things that you get in a great state where you feel good, are centered and serving. Make sure it’s a daily thing to celebrate yourself and your team’s wins and progress.

4. You must praise your team like crazy.

You must praise yourself and the people you work with like crazy. This will improve the way you feel, the way you inter-relate with other people and it gives people the feeling that they are appreciated which causes them to do so much more.

5. You must reward and recognize creativity consistently.

When you have done great, reward yourself and find creative ways of rewarding people. When you reward, they feel better and good and they perform better.

Today I want to talk to you about something called the OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE for your company. The optimal performance for you is what is called the flow state. This is a state where, when you do things, when you are in the process of being in flow guess what, things are happening the way you want them to. Everything you touch is moving. Somehow, you are attracting the right idea. Somehow, you are executing like crazy. Somehow, everything that you do is moving smoothly. It's called the optimum state of high performance. How do you get to that? A lot of studies have been done, science is proving that guess what, there is a certain way of doing certain things and when you do that, you get into that state. And when you get into that state, magic happens whether it is a state with your team or, its just you in life or a state of you leading a team or a state of you being an entrepreneur. It works across the entire spectrum.

Things for you to do to get into a state of flow are;

  1.     Have total clarity.

I will never stop talking about it but, there is nothing as wonderful as finding a person who has clarity. I was attending a meeting this morning and there is a segment in the meeting where everybody is supposed to stand up and do their, what is called the elevator's speech. Where you are supposed to tell people exactly what you are about, what you do and what you want from the meeting. It's amazing how many people don’t have clarity with their goals, how many people don’t have clarity with what they have to do, how many people don’t have clarity with their visions and this is going to be important. The people who are always in a state of flow, they have a great idea of a vision. They know exactly what their vision is and what they must achieve.

 

2. Have a daily gratitude practice.

Be grateful everyday why? It has been proven from science again, you must have a gratitude journal. You must find a practice where you are deeply grateful, why? It has been proven that gratitude is one of the greatest forces for human endurance, for human performance, for momentum and for everything. You’re feeling a little bit stressed, just go and be grateful, you’re feeling a bit stressed, just go and help somebody. You will be surprised what happens. All of a sudden, it changes your state, changes the way you feel and changes your performance. So, you must have a great sense of gratitude. You must always take time to be grateful for the things that you do.

 

3. You got to celebrate your wins and your progress consistently.

It doesn’t matter how small T. Harv Eker says, people waste a lot of time on the things that don’t matter yet, they will do much better if they were celebrating the small wins. Whatever it is like, I had a great meal, I didn’t complain, I kept a positive mind, I said please and thank you, I was kind, I was present. All those small things get you into the state of flow. It’s about doing those small things that get you in a great state where you know you feel good, you’re centered and you’re serving. So get into celebrating your wins and progress, make sure it is a daily thing, celebrate with your team and celebrate with yourself. At the end of the day, I ask myself, what were my wins today. 

 

4. You must praise your team like crazy.

You must praise the people you work with like crazy. You must praise yourself like crazy, why? It improves the way you feel, it improves the way you inter-relate with other people most importantly, it gives people that feeling of, am being appreciated and as long as am being appreciated am going to perform better. Get your team into a state of high performance by; praising them consistently, by making sure you’re celebrating them, by making sure there is clarity and by making sure all of you have a way to be grateful for the things that you do. And it is not something that happens overnight, you got to work on it to make sure that, we are doing what we have to do to get ourselves into a state of ultimate performance.

 

5. You must reward and recognize creativity consistently.

When you have done great, reward yourself and find creative ways of rewarding people. Find creative ways of saying, am going to find ways of rewarding this person because, they have done this or they have done that, why? When you reward, they feel better and good. What does that mean? They perform better.

 

6. Do whatever it takes to rejuvenate your mind, soul and body consistently.

Rejuvenation means you are taking time to massage, to rest, to put in the right food, to make sure you’re looking after this instrument which you use to perform. Find time to rejuvenate, breath, go and walk in the wilderness, get out of the noise of the city and just go out and take some time to breathe.

 

7. You must be growing and learning consistently.

To get into that state of flow, you must be growing. If something stops moving, it’s then going down. You must consistently work on growth. Make sure you are growing. Have I done something to make sure I grow today. Everyday ask the team, is the team growing. This particular principle cuts across as an individual and your teams.

To get your teams into a state of optimum performance, make sure they are growing, you are giving them challenges. You yourself, you got to make sure you are growing and or make sure you are doing whatever it takes to say, am I a little bit better. Teach yourself to learn to teach other people. learn stuff and then teach it. Inevitably, you are going to grow and become a master of that. 

 

8. Meditation.

If you haven’t started to meditate, you must have noticed that in the last 10 or so years, this practice of meditation is like on fire across the world. All the people who are performing at their best do meditate for 5-10 minutes and it has been demystified. It's just going inside, centering yourself and have control and then, focusing on what you want to do and then being grateful. 

 

9. Have some positive company sponsored fun

Go out as a team and have fun. Just have some fun as a company. I was working with a gentleman. He has got a company, they have been in business for 23 years and they have not had a team build and/or a company retreat for 20 years. I wasn’t surprised that, they were not doing as well as they should. You will never be at a level of high performance or in a state of flow because you are not doing the things that will bring that kind of mindset to you guys.
