How to Manage your Time Effectively

In this particular session, I want to talk about "How to Manage Your Time and Yourself for efficiency and effectiveness in your life." Why? It is crucial that we are able to manage our time most importantly, to be able to be effective in everything that we do.

Most people go around this world confusing busyness with effectiveness. They are so busy doing so much stuff, but, they are not effective. why? Because it is just the nature of life. They are so busy checking emails or WhatsApp. It's just busy, busy and not effective.

In this particular session, I want to talk about how to manage your time and yourself for efficiency and effectiveness in your life. Why? It is crucial that we are able to manage our time most importantly, to be able to be effective in everything that we do. Most people go around this world confusing busyness with effectiveness. They are so busy doing so much stuff, but, they are not effective, why? Because it is just the nature of life. They are so busy checking emails or WhatsApp. It's just busy, busy and not effective.

 

I have been studying recently the 80:20 rule. 80 percent of what you do is nonsense.

 

Take time and go through your day.

What do you do from the beginning of the day to the end of the day? Which ones of the things that you do are in line with your purpose and, are giving you the ability to go closer to my goals. 80% of what you do is nonsense and 20% of what you do is what you were created to do in this world. You are being purposeful and doing things that take you closer to your dream and desires.

One of the most important things we have in life is time. It is irreplaceable. You cannot manage time, but, you can manage yourself. It is about discipline; it’s about having the discipline to say I am going to do what I say am going to do within the time I say am going to do it. 

 

How do you manage your life and time?

 

Clarity is power. Clarity gives you the ability to mind your goals, biggest desires, therefore everything you do is in line with that. People who don’t have clarity waste time; are busy doing so many things and they are not moving closer to their goals and things that make them alive. You got to be clear about what you stand for, what your biggest dreams are, what you want to achieve, what you want to become and who you need to be.

Be clear about what relationships you want to create/have. Are they rich, full of love and connection. You got to be clear about that then, you can begin to work on them.

You got to have goals and clarity in terms of how you want to grow, where you want to go, where do I want to get because, when you have all those 3 clear in your mind, then you begin to become purposeful, you become a person who uses their time purposefully because, there is a direction/clarity. Where there is clarity, there is power and where there is power, you get results.

 

1.    Always prepare in advance.

You want to manage your day/time better, prepare in advance. You got to prepare for tomorrow, today. Sit down and say, these are the things that will get to happen tomorrow. It's not easy, it's discipline and you got to work on it. Are there going to be days where you’re tired and don’t prepare? Yes. However, the majority of times, prepare in advance.

Somehow, when you prepare the night before, the mind has a way of directing you in your day to be much more effective therefore; you manage your time and yourself better therefore moving ahead as quickly as you ought to.

 

2. Manage yourself more than anything else.

Self-discipline is doing what you say you are going to do, whether you want to or, feel like it or, don’t feel like it. You still do it anyway. Self-discipline is where you know that desert looks great , but you decide to eat the fruit. Self-discipline is where you get up and it's raining and your bed feels the most logical, comfortable place to be but, you still get up and go for that run or you work out or journal. Self-discipline is saying you are going to do something and doing it.

Every time you don't do what you say you are going to do, you affect your self-esteem and self-confidence therefore, you become weaker as a person. If you want to manage yourself and time better, you got to say and do what you say you are going to do and stick with it consistently. Are you going to have some times where it is a little bit difficult? Of course. But your job is to consistently work towards it slowly but surely until; you build this muscle where you have the discipline to do what you say you are going to do, when you are going to do it.

 

3. Set conditions.

You must set conditions and create a supportive environment for you to manage yourself better. You must have the self-discipline to say, when it is time to study for 1 and half hours, no phone nothing, put it away. It is a little bit difficult, but nothing comes easy. One of the best ways you want to be able to manage distractions is, sit with a piece of paper on the side and every time your concentrating on something and you are distracted, write down what distracts you, soon or later, you will see a pattern and then, you will find a way to get rid of that stuff.

I always say, don’t sacrifice the time to work on your greatest goals for little minor stuff. When the phone rings, it is somebody else's business. Everything else can wait until you have done what you have to do. The most important person in the world is you therefore, you focus more on your life's mission, purpose by setting conditions to say, it is study time, it's time to work out. One of the greatest challenges with self-discipline is, the people you surround yourself with and live with. Create an environment that is supportive so that you’re able to manage myself and time better, therefore, be much more effective in life.

 

4. Focus on giving value to others 24/7.

Managing yourself and your time to be much more effective is about what you bring to the table. It's about how you show up. One of the greatest ways to be much more effective in managing yourself is focusing on how much value you bring to the world and to others in making this place a better place. Ziglar said, serve as much as you can, help enough people get what they want and you will certainly get what you want. When you focus on bringing value somehow, you will find a way to discipline yourself to do that consistently.

Focus on creating value, serving better and more. Somehow, you will become much more effective because all of a sudden, it becomes so important to you that nothing else is important, you begin to concentrate, to put in the time and to do whatever it takes.

 

5. Spend time alone.

There is nothing as important as recharging yourself and rejuvenating the mind. Taking time to spend time alone might be one of the best things you do for yourself whether you are a mum, dad, entrepreneur or leader. It might be the best thing you do for yourself, why? I tell people that, everybody else will be okay when you are okay.

The best time to create something is, get away from the noise, go and find a vacation and just rejuvenate. It is through that time where you are away and you are connecting with nature that ideas are going to pop. You want to manage yourself and time better, spend time on your own, take time to go inside, be appreciative and before you know it, you’re much more focused and in line with the kind of person you want to be.
